SWC ‘Thrifty Thursday’ happening Jan. 25

The community is invited to thrift at SWC’s ‘My Sister’s Closet’ boutique, with proceeds going to agency’s clients

Sudbury Women’s Centre (SWC) will host their monthly “Thrifty Thursday” Jan. 25, an initiative aimed at helping women, girls, and gender-diverse individuals access essential needs in times of struggle.

A release from SWC states that during the colder months, and following the holiday season giving, they see a significant rise in clients seeking basic necessities such as hygiene items, as well as a significant decrease in  these items being donated.

The monthly event takes place on the last Thursday of each month, and the community is invited to thrift at SWC’s “My Sister’s Closet” boutique. All of the proceeds go towards providing clients with basic needs items, including hygiene products.

The next Thrifty Thursday event will run from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at SWC (located at 174 Douglas Street, Suite 201).

If participants bring a new, unused hygiene item (such as shampoo, body wash, toothpaste, etc.) they will be entered into a draw to win a “Relaxing Bath Prize Pack.”

“Thrifty Thursday allows us to purchase much needed hygiene items that are essential to our  clients,” said SWC executive director, Giulia Carpenter. “They are distributed quickly and are often overlooked when it comes to donations. As a result, Thrifty Thursday plays a crucial role in ensuring that vulnerable individuals in our community have access to basic necessities.”

SWC wants to remind everyone that during regular business hours, clothing items remain free for their clients or those going  through difficult life circumstances.
