Support Sudbury Women’s Centre first Thrifty Thursday of 2025

Article by: Sudbury Star

Sudbury Women’s Centre (SWC) continues to host their monthly Thrifty Thursday initiative, aimed at helping women, girls and gender-diverse individuals access essential needs in times of struggle. The first fundraiser of 2025 will take place on Jan. 30.

SWC continues to see a significant rise in the number of clients seeking basic necessities such as hygiene items, but these items are not typically donated at the centre.

Thrifty Thursday provides an important opportunity for the community to join the cause while sourcing their clothing in an affordable and sustainable way. On the last Thursday of each month, the community is invited to thrift at SWC’s boutique, My Sister’s Closet. All of the proceeds go towards providing clients with basic needs items, including hygiene products.

The next event takes place from 6-8 p.m. at SWC, 174 Douglas St., suite 201. If participants spend $25 or more, they will receive a ballot to win a prize generously donated by Starbucks on Paris Street.

“Thrifty Thursday continues to be a vital initiative here at SWC. Not only does it provide an opportunity for the community to visit the centre and find some amazing thrift pieces, it also directly supports our clients,” said Ginette Comeau-Roy, executive director of the centre. “Hygiene items and basic necessities are crucial for our clients and the funds raised at Thrifty Thursday allow us to continue to provide these items regularly.”

SWC wants to remind everyone that clothing items remain free for their clients or those going through difficult life circumstances during their regular business hours.
