Sudbury MPP Jamie West and Sudbury Women’s Centre volunteer Maureen Egan met with SWC representatives on July 8 to mark the end of the work that resulted from a $16,200 capital grant from the provincial government’s Ontario Trillium Foundation.

Awarded in 2022, the grant enabled the centre to make soundproofing renovations that were completed earlier this year.

“The Sudbury Women’s Centre does such important work in our community,” West said in a release from SWC. “This OTF grant allowed them to provide a greater sense of security and respect for the individuals that need their support and services. Congratulations and thank you for all that you do.”

The OTF grant enabled the soundproofing of several walls and offices within the centre, with the goal of enhancing clients’ confidentiality and safety, as well as productivity for staff and volunteers. Renovations have improved the overall client experience at SWC, particularly when meeting with support workers or other agencies.

“Client safety and privacy are paramount at SWC and as such, this project was incredibly important to us,” said Giulia Carpenter, executive director at SWC. “We strive to ensure that clients are able to meet us in a quiet, comfortable environment, as many of our clients are experiencing a variety of difficult life circumstances and challenges. We are proud to always be working to improve our service delivery and are thankful to the Ontario Trillium Foundation for supporting this initiative.”

SWC is a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to providing information, referral and support services to women, girls and gender-diverse individuals who have been impacted by violence or difficult life circumstances. Staff and volunteers at the centre offer a safe space, inclusive and respecting of diversity, to support women in their journey.
