Public invited to freshen up wardrobe, while helping others
The Sudbury Women’s Centre continues to host its monthly Thrifty Thursday initiative, aimed at helping women, girls and gender-diverse individuals access essential needs in times of struggle.
“SWC continues to see a significant rise in clients seeking basic necessities such as hygiene items, as well as a significant decrease in these items being donated,” the organization said. “In fact, since the start of 2024 alone, SWC has nearly doubled their number of clients.”
Thrifty Thursday provides an opportunity for the community to join the cause while sourcing their clothing in an affordable and sustainable way. On the last Thursday of each month, the community is invited to come thrift at the My Sister’s Closet boutique operated by the centre. All of the proceeds go toward providing clients with basic needs items, including hygiene products.
The March 28 event goes from 6 to 8 p.m. at SWC, located at 174 Douglas Street, Suite 201.
“SWC invites everyone to come and freshen up their wardrobe for spring, while also supporting our community,” the organization said.
If participants spend more than $30, they will also be entered into a draw for a chance to win an Old Soul Soap Company prize pack.
“Thrifty Thursday is more important than ever before,” said SWC Executive Director Giulia Carpenter. “In the first two months of 2024, SWC has nearly doubled the number of clients served. A significant portion of these clients relies on our closet for basic necessities such as hygiene items, which are rarely donated. Through the proceeds generated at Thrifty Thursday, we are able to continue to purchase these items and keep our closet stocked.”
SWC wants to remind everyone that clothing items remain free for their clients, or those going through difficult life circumstances, during their regular business hours.
