Introducing Sudbury’s Boobie Bra Drive
The Sudbury Women’s Centre is teaming up with local businesses to host a month-long bra and undergarment drive starting Oct. 1. Donations to the BOObie Bra Drive will go directly into the SWC community closet to help local women get access to underwear and basic needs items.
There will be bins at the Sudbury Women’s Centre, 174 Douglas St, suite 201; House of Bras,756-A Lasalle Blvd.; La Senza in the New Sudbury Shopping Centre; the YMCA, 140 Durham St.; Connected Living, 2152 Long Lake Rd.; and MyHealth Centre, 65 Larch St. suite 103. They will be in place until Oct. 31 at 4 p.m.
“We are so grateful to all of our generous community partners who have agreed to be a part of this donation drive,” said Giulia Carpenter, executive director of the SWC. “None of this would be possible without these amazing business leaders who are dedicated to helping their local community. By making a bra or undergarment donation, you are directly supporting women who may otherwise be unable to purchase them. These are items that we do not often get, and since they need to be new or in gently used condition (bras), they can be difficult to come by.”
You can also support the initiative at Connected Living, which will host a special Yoga in Your Knickers event on Oct. 14. Women can attend the yoga session with their undergarments over their clothes, while bringing in donations of unused undergarments. Donations can be made directly to the SWC by appointment. Please call 705-673-1916 ext. 100. The SWC is open Monday to Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Hygiene items and socks are also accepted and appreciated.
