Get ready for school with Thrifty Thursday at Sudbury Women’s Centre

Sudbury Women’s Centre (SWC) continues to host their monthly Thrifty Thursday initiative, aimed at helping women, girls and gender-diverse individuals access essential support in times of struggle. This month’s fundraiser takes place on Aug. 29.

“Each month, Thrifty Thursday allows the community to source clothing sustainably, and provides funds that are crucial to our organization as we continue to grow,” Ginette Comeau-Roy, executive director of SWC, said in a release.

“This month, we are also providing an opportunity to show our support to United Way Centraide North East Ontario, a key partner who continues to support SWC and our mission. Your donation will contribute to helping thousands of people in our community each year.”

SWC continues to see a significant rise in clients seeking support, with a significant reduction in funding for these resources. Since the start of 2024 alone, SWC has nearly doubled their number of clients.

Thrifty Thursday provides an important opportunity for the community to join the cause while sourcing their clothing in an affordable and sustainable way. On the last Thursday of each month, the community is invited to come thrift at My Sister’s Closet, the SWC boutique. All proceeds go towards directly supporting SWC’s clients.

The next event takes place from 6-8 p.m. at SWC, 174 Douglas St., suite 201. This month, if you purchase from the United Way table or make a donation to United Way Centraide North East Ontario, you will be entered into our draw to win some goodies from Saje Natural Wellness.

SWC wants to remind everyone that clothing items remain free for their clients or those going through difficult life circumstances during their regular business hours.
