The Sudbury Women’s Centre (SWC) is hosting its final Thrifty Thursday fundraiser of 2023 on Nov. 30.

“Thrifty Thursday provides an important opportunity for the community to join the cause while sourcing their clothing in an affordable and sustainable way,” the centre said in a news release.

Held on the final Thursday of each month, members of the public are invited to come thrift at SWC’s “My Sister’s Closet” boutique, where all proceeds go towards providing clients with basic needs items, including the much-needed hygiene items.

On Nov. 30, the last Thrifty Thursday of the year starts at 6 p.m., until 8 p.m. It is held at the Sudbury Women’s Centre, 174 Douglas St., Suite 201.

“If participants spend at least $25, they will be entered into a special draw for a Starbucks prize pack, and if participants come wearing their best ugly Christmas sweater they will receive an additional entry,” the centre said in a news release.

Sudbury Women’s Centre said it is in particular need of hygiene items like soap, shampoo and toothpaste. “These items are not commonly donated, and thousands of dollars’ worth of hygiene items can be distributed within just a single day,” the centre said.

“Thrifty Thursday allows us to purchase essentials such as hygiene items, which provides a lifeline for our clients, especially so close to the holidays. In the season of giving, it ensures that often overlooked necessities find their way to those who need them. Your support transforms thrift into a meaningful gesture, making a difference where it’s needed the most,” said Executive Director Giulia Carpenter.

SWC wants to remind everyone that clothing items remain free for their clients or those going through difficult life circumstances during their regular business hours.

The Sudbury Women’s Centre helps women, girls, and gender-diverse individuals access essential needs in times of struggle.
